  • We publish Green City Diaries, a series of articles in Model D about Detroiters making sustainable choices. Here's series author Matt Piper speaking at a fundraiser for community garden & orchard Hamtown Farms at the Public Pool in Hamtramck on Saturday.

  • Tawnya Clark of The Batata Shop serving up her delicious sweet potato pancakes during the GG community happy hour brunch today. YUM!

  • A first ever meeting between the Detroit Public Schools and the Detroit Historical Society, discussing ways to preserve the rich history of the school system. Darraux Waddell (at far left), the DPS Distric Archivist brought with him many photos and other historic artifacts.

  • Welcome to Will Mundel, who's joining the Green Garage nonprofit-in-residence community as the new Director of Programs for Detroit Food Academy. DFA works in Detroit schools to develop young leaders through experiential good food & entrepreneurship education.

  • Karen Batchelor of business-in-residence Living Large with Less busting her novelistic chops. A participant in National Novel Writing Month, Karen's getting to work on a book inspired by the lives of her ancestors, who settled in the US along the present-day Connecticut River.

  • Statement of purpose from business-in-residence FoodLab Detroit, which is throwing its first annual member & ally potluck celebration on Friday!

Week of November 4

  • Francis Grunow of business-in-residence New Solutions Group discusses new ways of thinking about preservation in Detroit at the National Historic Trust conference in Indianapolis last week.

  • Rahel Bühlmann raises the Green Garage flag over Second Ave. on Monday morning. Our flag bears three rings for the three pillars of sustainability: environment, community, & economy.

  • Welcome to Anna Balzer, who's coming to the Green Garage as a Challenge Detroit fellow with PM Environmental, a national environmental consulting and engineering company based in Michigan. Her work researching site histories supports PM's Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
