   GG Labs Sessions are held the first Friday of each month after the
   Community Lunch, starting at 2:00 p.m. and ending around 4:00 p.m.
   All are welcome!!

Labs Session - Jan 6, 2017- PLANNING

  • 2017 LABS Topics
    • 1) Our report on the duct changes in the annex
      • GG IAQ Study 1.0
      • GG IAQ Study 2.0
      • LLC will consolidate sketch of elbow options with notes and send to Tom
      • Next month, try to get Jeff from Cappy to Labs to look at changes and finalize plan to improve airflow
    • 2) Solar PV panels on the annex at the GG this year
    • 3) Study of annex lights, T8 to LED, with DTE Maybe program for rebate
      • Nate will take lead and investigate source of lights and program requirements
      • Laurie has contacts that can help advise on lighting and DTE, if needed
      • Review prelim findings in Feb, if ready
    • 4) Weatherstripping for the El Moore Lodge windows - experiment with various methods this winter
      • Double hung with medium brush for weather stripping now
      • Too much brush type makes windows hard to operate
      • Brush with plastic fin in middle may provide better seal
      • Plan to test a few windows/methods and apply to worst case; decide when see how pilot testing pans out
    • 5) Blower door test on El Moore Gardens building
      • Coordinate with Joe for when building is ready for blower door
      • Labs will help organize and perform test and then document results with any recommendations
  • GG Solar Thermal
    • Solar thermal not heating up
    • Reviewed trends and found no heating since around 12/18/16
    • No real evidence of leak on roof, but found small storage tank 75% empty
    • Joe turned solar thermal pump off at switch and refilled tank; will look for leak

      • System static pressure profile (Check pressure drop across supply fittings being considered for improvement)

    • Booster fan on low appears to be low, but did not check high speed branch to make sure damper closed CHECK

    • Booster fan high speed point does not appear to be registering when fan goes to high speed CHECK

      • Reset Booster Fan low speed
      • Reset ERV EF low speed total
      • Rebalance exhaust branch on low speed
      • Check supply airflow to Annex at each register
    • August - Final Airflows & Issues + Documentation
  • Hands-On
    • Double check booster fan total w/ BF & ERV on low speed (first time BF extremely low??)
      • Make sure ERV / BF both on low speed (Mode 4,5,6)
      • Measure BF outlet total (Main Supply)
      • Check D4 closed and supplemental branch is zero
      • Reset BF low speed setting, if needed to get 765 CFM
      • Record results
    • Reset ERV low speed airflow
      • Make sure ERV / BF both on low speed (Mode 4,5,6)
      • Set ERV EF speed so total is 545 CFM by manual speed controller
      • Measure resulting ERV SF total and record; verify approx. 545 CFM
      • Record results - indicate if EF / SF fans speed okay w/ linked speed control
    • Rebalance exhaust branch
      • Set large conf room to 100 CFM (110 CFM max.)
      • Verify noise level acceptable at higher flow
      • Check rest of branch to design airflows on exhaust
      • Adjust individual inlets to get design airflows
      • Adjust ERV EF speed as needed to achieve design airflows
      • Record results
    • Check ERV high speed airflows
      • Set system so ERV on high speed and BF on low speed (Mode 1 - Occ / CO2 / no Dehumid)
      • Measure ERV SF & EF total airflows; verify approx. 765 CFM each
      • Measure exh inlets (spot check first & last min.); verify within design
      • Adjust D5 full open setting if needed to restore critical branch exh
      • Record results

    • Need to read airflows when building unoccupied to get stable values and relative to each other; very inconsistent
    • Need airflow hood for larger round diffusers approx. 7"-8" could make 8x8 and taper to 6" round
