Water Usage Statistics
Measurement Decisions
- Unit of measure = gallons (water dept measures in cu, where 1cu = 100 cubic feet = 728 gallons)
- Per person is the number of people that are in the Businesses in Residence
- What industry standard are you using...put in link here.
Sources of Water
- Our water comes from the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, which gets its water from the Detroit River and Lake Huron.
Uses of Water
- Toilets (1.28 gal/flush)
- Sinks
- Bathroom (0.5 gal/min + automated)
- Kitchen
- Dishwasher (4 gal / load)
- Shower (2.5 gal/min shower head)
- Coffee / Drinking
- Outdoor watering. We harvest the water that we use for outdoor watering in 2 cisterns and only use city water when the other water is exhausted. Our goal is to use no city water for outdoor use.
Water Usage Charts
- Consistent with prior usage
- When compared with Jan of 2012, we used 2x the amount of water. Consider that we had only 5 businesses-in-residence at the time, and in Jan of 2013 we had 38 businesses.
- Average 35-40 guests every Friday
- Water usage per person decreases as number of people in building grows
- The typical usage per person in office space is 25 gallons per day, and in federal buildings, 15 gallons per day. This means between 315-500 gallons per month. In January we averaged 50 gallons per month per person.
