What is It?

  • A brief description of what it is.
  • If it is part of a system-level pattern put a link to it in here.

The human comfort zone refers to the range of temperature, air movement, and humidity conditions that most people will find comfortable most of the time.

  • Also known as: thermal comfort zone

Why is it Important?

  • Strengthens our relationship to the earth...changing the thermostat's settings has energy use consequences
  • Encourages cooperative interactions...one person's "too hot" may be another person's "too cold."

When to Use It?

  • Use the human comfort zone to establish set points for HVAC controls.
  • It's better to try for the middle of the range instead of either end, so that if the temperature dips or peaks the building remains in the comfort zone for a long time.

Green Garage Application

Sustainability Goals
  • The human comfort zone ranges from approx.
  • Strive to quantify if at all possible.
  • It doesn't describe how...just the outcomes.
Strategy and Conceptual Design
  • Describe how we plan to achieve these goals
  • Explain why we chose this specific strategy and design (our rationale)
  • Include pictures, drawings or videos(flickr)
  • Supporting science:
Proposed Materials / Suppliers
  • Identify (via links and short description) the materials and suppliers we propose to use.
Development Story

The ?? - Development Story page contains many images and videos documenting the process used at the Green Garage to design, build and operate our ?? system.
