email on DSWD Alley

To All --

There's be great progress...but still a lot to go. On a good note our 1877 brick sewer is overall in pretty good shape. Inland spent two days cleaning it out. There are a couple issues that need to be addressed.

Here's an update from the work done by DSWD and Inland on our issues in the alley...and more:

  • Sink Hole - the sink hole is due to a bad connection in sewer lead from Motor City Brewing Works. This was determined using a camera in the main sewer and putting a 2" water hose in the sink hole. John L. has agreed to hire a plumber that will be ready to do the repair once the concrete is removed by Redford Cement. So we'll handle this without DWSD involvement.
  • Water Main Leak - The water department personnel did come out on Monday They have agreed(1) the water main behind the Green Garage is theirs, (2) there is a leak and (3) they will locate where it is leaking. We don't have a date on this, but will need to have this done very soon to avoid conflicts with the alley construction.
  • Partial Sewer Collapse - In the area of the sewer behind Canfield Lofts, there is a partial collapse of the sewer. Inland will be recommending that the entire sewer be lined with a fiberglass lining. They install this without digging. This would need to be done before we start the alley. It does not take long to do.

The next step is for DWSD to determine when their work could be done. This would be Mr. Farhat. The work needing to be done before the alley work is:

  • Find and fix the water main leak.
  • Insert the fiberglass liner in the sewer to fix the collapsed area and reinforce the sewer going forward.

I talked to Mark Sklut and he confirmed that they tested their sewer lead for the Brentwood Apt and found it to be in working order. So no work would need to be done on their lead.

We'll stay on it.

Tom
