The Green Garage is home to a weekly lunchtime book conversation, facilitated by business-in-residence Elderberry, that's centered on social transformation. The group is currently reading and discussing Walk Out, Walk On, about the "emerging movement of pioneering leaders and communities around the world who are self-organizing to create healthy and resilient communities."
Last week, as a result of our robust, community-wide composting & recycling efforts, the Green Garage community threw away 22 lbs of garbage. We keep track of our garbage output (as well as water & energy use) every week in an effort to understand and reduce our numbers. See our Measurement Pages for a closer look.

Welcome to Lynn Crawford, the newest writer-in-residence to join the Green Garage community! Lynn is a novelist, art critic, and 2010 Kresge Literary Arts fellow.
Francis Grunow of business-in-residence New Solutions Group, a public policy consulting firm, wraps up his three-part series about Detroit published in the web magazine Model D this week. Part 3 takes the long view, arguing that in an age of global climate change Detroit might just end up being "one of earth’s better long-term investments to sustain life." Read the article here.
Members of the Green Garage community setting up shop at the Rust Belt Market in Ferndale. Visit them on Saturdays 11a-7p and Sundays 11a-6p for coffee, juice, books from Pages (a pop-up bookstore) and handmade goods from the Artifact Makers Society.

Welcome to Pete Benedetto, the newest member of the Green Garage community! Pete's joining nonprofit-in-residence Michigan Corps as a fellow. He'll be working on Michigan Corps' microlending initiative Kiva Michigan.
Entrepreneur and writer-in-residence Karen Batchelor is celebrating Black History Month this year with a daily blog series called "Make Black History Personal" in her blog Extreme Ancestry. This shot of her with her parents in 1951 is from her first post. Check out the whole series here.
