Recycling

Recycling containers with signs up in the kitchen area.

We recycle cardboard, paper, styrofoam, plastics, glass and metals. All recycling containers except paper are in the kitchen. The paper recycling container is located just outside the library. We take all recycled materials out to the recycling area in the alley, where it is collected by Recycle Here. Here is a breakout of materials we recycle:

We also use compostable paper towels in the bathrooms. They are placed in the white containers under the sinks. The paper towels go to ----- to be composted.

Please see Kirsten with recycling questions.

Composting

Food scraps can go into our composting bucket. All vegetable and fruit products are allowed as long as they are not covered in a sauce or oil. No meat products can be composted. Our compost pile is in our back yard.

Please see Kirsten about composting questions.

Conference room use

Conference room

We have one conference room (seats 6-8 comfortably) and 4 small, 1-3 person rooms which are available for your use. Please use the sign-up sheet inside each room to reserve the space you need.

Please see Jason about room reservation questions.

Guests

Kevin with guests

Guests are always welcome. We will have tables available for you to meet, in addition to the conference and small meeting rooms.

Please see Jason about guest questions.

Entering and exiting the building

Use your key fob to enter and exit the building from the parking lot area. Guests enter through the front door.

Please see Jason about accessibility questions.

Parking

Parking is located in 2 areas. Most of the time, you'll be parking in a lot off Canfield between Cass and Second. Make sure you get a swipe card from us. There is also a small lot in front of the building, and this lot has a handicapped spot. If you are bringing in enough to require multiple trips from the car, this lot would be a good choice.

Please see Jason about parking questions.

Lockers

Lockers in the annex.

There are lockers in the annex for you to use. Please bring your own lock.

See Jason to get set up with a locker.

Notes about the bathrooms and shower

  • Each bathroom has compostable paper towels for you to use. Please place them in the white garbage container located under each sink. They will be taken to ------ for composting. The silver can is for garbage.
  • The urinal in the men's room is waterless. The ---- serves as a cleaner, and periodically it will be changed. Please let us know if you suspect that the ----- needs to be changed.
  • We installed a shower to encourage biking or walking to the Green Garage, so feel free to make use of it. There is are hooks inside for your clothes. Please bring your own towel from home (you can keep it in a locker).

Please contact Jason for questions about the bathrooms.

Kitchen and eating space

Kitchen area

A few notes about the kitchen:

  • Feel free to bring in the food you need. We have refrigeration and some cupboard space. We encourage you to take home leftover food at the end of each day.
  • Dishes, coffee mugs, glassware and flatware are provided. When you are done using them, please put them in the dishwasher.
  • When the dishwasher is on, there will be a sign on the counter not to open it. The dishwasher has 2 drawers, so check the other drawer if one is running. In addition, we have clean/dirty magnets for both dishwasher drawers to let you know where to put dishes.
  • The garbage is located under the coffee station, and the recycling is opposite the kitchen counters.

Please see Peggy about kitchen questions.

Coffee

We order fair-trade, organic regular and decaffeinated coffee from Coffee Express in Plymouth, MI. Not everyone drinks coffee, so we are forming a coffee club for those interested. Anyone wishing to participate, please call Peggy Brennan at 248-840-6548 or e-mail me at greengaragedetroit@gmail.com, and I'll fill you in on the details.

More information is located on our coffee page.
